Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

£15 for a 3D IMAX ticket for this movie last night.

Yikes.

Had tried to stay away from the reviews beforehand as I've always loved the original Alien and wanted to see this one with no preconceptions whatsoever.

Did I like it? Yup
Did I love it? Erm, nope
Was it scary? A bit

The film is stunning.

For visuals, you really have to go some in order to beat Ridley Scott. The ship looks very similar to the Nostromo is his original movie, which is a good thing. The space suits are also reminiscent, as are some of the scenes in the way they are played out. The audio was also top-notch, especially in IMAX - the sound was reverberating right the way through the soles of my flip-flops.

All that said, who wrote that script?

Some of the lines were cringe-worthy. There were too many characters to delve into any of them properly and the only one which could have been truly interesting was Charlize Theron's but sadly this was not persued. I kept thinking back to Alien and how much you empathise with Ripley, but this sentiment was missing from the prequel.

I need a movie to be easy to follow as I tend not to invest too much energy - it's a pasttime, a way to relax, after all. Concentration is for work! With this being the case, at some points, there were too many things going on for me to keep up. And 24 hours later, I still cannot work out what the pre-credits sequence was all about! Answers on a postcard, please.

Although the ending leaves it open for another one, I hope that more time is spent on the script next time.

And one last point - why pay Guy Pierce to spend hours in make-up to portray a 90-year old man when you could have gotten a real 90-year old to do it better and at the same time, supplement his pension?? Think on, Ridley!
